Chennai is firstly dirty .extreamly dirty all rail way stations so dirty every where its is dirty and smelly and no one can feel like a metro city enthu in it?
Chennai India now rarely heard which was once a large south indi port Madras i am from Mumbai .. i visited all 4 cities recently i seen change every where but not in that extent in chennai i can say some facts like
1) Mumbai ( GDP 122 Billion US Dollar ) commercial capital of india sky scrapers and metro rail under construction with It sector . Maharastra ( 13 % of indian Economy ) 1 st ranks GDp growth rate of state is 7.5% 4th fastest in country after Karnataka West Bengal and
Gujrat . Mumbai has got Bardra worli sea link and will get metro rail also so many sky scrapers under constuction. so its best i guess.ricchest peoples of india lives in mumbai its the main and fore most hug for world trade with western countries . India’s world trade centre is located here .
2) Kolkata ( GDP 101 Billion US Dollar ) commercial capital of Whole east india and north east 3 ports and West Bengal 3rd largest Economy in the country after Maharastra and UP .. GDP growth rate 2nd fastest in country which is over 9 % bustling IT sector growth ,indias biggest shopping mall, Chinese investment flooding already under ground metro running , Kolkata Under Water ganges Metro will be first time in asia and India again Kolkata will be getting the first Sky Rail ( like Japan) in india. Sky scraper construction is booming with dozens of over 50 storeys under construction and approved dozens of flyover changed the sky line( dominated by 83 storey kolkata office tower planned ) of the city to make it the real gate way to south asia .
3)New Delhi( 100 GDP US Dollar) highest per capita income , worl class standards metro rail , national capital of india showing healthy growth . India’s talles tower is planned in delhi . highest car purchaseing market . posh localities which are mosre posh that even mumbai and kolkata . world class malls real booming skyline and roads and business capital of entire north india . high class metro rail which is better than looks than kolkata metro . highest percapita income in country high gowth and dozens of flyovers is really changing the face of capital of india .
i seen in chennai growth has occured but not so dynamic like delhi mumbai or kolkata where visual spurt in growth is observed … is chennai loosing its position among the other three metros ..is a power triangle forming conneting west, east, north which is excluding chennai .

waw thats awesome seeing ur research on the 3 metros of india , but without any stasticical information of chennai u can conclude this topic ,
now ill give some a year old stasticical data and some photos of present chennai, since recently none have any latest stasticical readings. then we can conclude that Chennai is most lagging among metros ,
cleanliness – i cant say chennai is very clean compared to other metros , but i am sure , chennai is working for the best, do to the high migration in to the city , though they face some problem , progress of their work is the best of all,Chennai was rated as having the highest quality of life among Indian cities ahead of the other three metros and Bangalore, based on the “Location Ranking Survey” conducted by ECA International.Chennai has improved its global ranking to 138 in 2006-07 from 179 in 2002-03. since chennai is piled with urben and rural areas and some panjats even its stupid to expect more, chennai is 118 kms which include all rural and village areas even , u have to understand one thing in common ,. if you thinks metro can only be considered by their western style of living , then Chennai is exception , Chennai grows with tradition and culture ,
At last the best part of Chennai is, the crime rate , chennai is the safest place compared to all metro city ( can u refuse it )?
Chennai is gone cause of political corruption soon bangalore and hyderabad will replace chennai to join the club of Mumbai , Kolkata , Delhi.

Who said Chennai is lagging ,I dont know what is your source but just recently I have seen Chennai and found all round development and in fact is better than any other Metros in India

I am from Kolkata and visited all the metros at least 25 times each and also visited at least 100 other places in India and abroad and I can say Kolkata is most lagging. Chennai is absolutely of as per Indian standard.
cause Chennai is not cosmopolitian in nature its full with tamils where as in mumbai Kolkata and NCR you will find its cosmopolitian nature people from all over the country coming there .
again no mordern cities are planned near chennai as in the case of Mumbai , navi mumbai world largest planned city fast growing
Kolkata , Salt lake City and Extension , Rajarhat Mega city
NCR , Noida , Gurgaon
all these the cities have towering constructions with many skyscrapers and metro rail and under water metro and even sky rail( Kolkata) Planned in these three cities

I don’t have time to read your entire question but I feel Chennai is a lot better than Mumbai and Kolkata.In Mumbai the population……..yuck.While Kolkata is very dirty…..I love Chennai.It’s a great place.There’s so much development here in the past 2 years.The people here are hospitable ,etc etc…………
